Electric Lawnmowers

The old gas mower we use for trim work broke. It got old and the deck rusted to the point that it flexed enough for the blade to hit it.

This is boring stuff unless you've been curious about these rechargeable mowers, so feel free to pass this over if you start to feel sleepy.

I found a Homelite rechargeable electric mower for about $350 at Home Depot. It has a metal deck where the other brands have a plastic deck. It lasted long enough to do quite a bit of work in tall grass on my 1/2 acre lot. It took 15 hours for the initial charge, so if you let the charge deplete, it's going to be a while to get going again.  The Homelite weights 87 pounds, so it's not lighter than a gas mower. I am looking forwared to no gas, oil, filters, spark plugs, etc.

My Dad bought the Remington rechargeable electric mower and he's happy with it. It's advantages are that it's lighter and can run on the cord or the battery. However, it only has a 17 inch cut where the Homelite has a 20 inch cut.

The real test for these mowers will be the test of time. Considering there is no cost for gas or maintenance I'll be happy to get 3 years out of mine.

Dad's Remington Electric Mower Already Fried

My Dad bought the Remington electric mower because he liked the lightweight and the ability to run from a cord or battery. It already has quit running due to problems with the circuit board.

From what I've seen on reviews of the product, this is common. Remington seems to have quality control issues. They're going to replace the mower, but who knows how long that will take.

Lowes Finally Settled Up

It took 3 phone calls to Lowes, but they finally credited the amount back to my account.

They tried to tell  me on the second call that I needed to come into the store to fix a mistake like that. I told them that is the last thing they want. The 3rd call finally got me to the point that I became as rude as they are. That started after the lady started laughing at the problem. Acting like they do did finally correct the problem. I guess Lowes customer service training tells them not to do anything until the customer starts to be on their level of rudeness.

Lessons Learned -

  • Don't go to Lowes.
  • Don't use a debit card for large purchases. If things go wrong, you lose access to the funds until those who make the error decide they would like to correct it.
  • Never go to Lowes.

Glad I Ended Up At Home Depot For My Lawnmower

Before buying this mower at Home Depot, I attempted to buy a mower at Lowe's. Huge mistake.

Lowe's cranky register guy insisted that I use the self-checkout. In the middle of the self-checkout process, it errored out. They acted like it was my fault and they could not get the error solved. They assured me that my card didn't go through.

I got fed up with the rudeness and the ignorance and told them to keep their mower and left. They decided to charge my credit card for it anyhow.

So I'm up to 1 hour on the phone now Lowes and I still haven't got my money refunded. I don't know if I ever will at this point.  I really dislike Lowe's department stores now. About $213 dollars worth of dislike. They keep getting more disrespectul on the phone.

On the plus side, I learned through this process that Park National Bank in Newark, Ohio will change an account number without telling you. Then they will argue with you for a 1/2 hour that you don't have an account with them. They changed my number due to duplicate account numbers! Great, now I have to go back through bank statements to see what else they've done, but at least I know it happened now.

Just my week for stores. Once again, I wish I would have just bought online.
