Allen County Ohio Photos

Allen County, Ohio is located in the northwestern section of Ohio. Strangely, anybody who knew about the county referred me to Kewpee Hamburgers. Kewpee is said to be where Wendy's founder Dave Thomas got his ideas for his own hamburger chain. After eating there, I would say that there is a striking similarity, bar the strange naked Kewpee dolls that were all over the place.

Lima is the county seat and it is home to Ohio's first oil refinery. The refinery business is still going. The Lima downtown was suffering from the usual Ohio small downtown syndrome of decay. The usual business that you find in every city are on the outskirts while the downtown awaits a reawakening. There were many interesting sights including the courthouse and it's surrounding area. I found The Court Diner interesting because so many small diners like it have not survived. The Firehouse Bar was also cool with it's fire truck sticking out of the front.

The Lima County Airport was the last stop. I watched an ultra-light and a lear jet within a few minutes of being there. Certainly a contrast.
